3 Drugs for the Immediate Future

money_in_a_pile.jpg
There goes an old adage that says you should invest in what you know. If you discount the other old adage that says doctors are terrible with money, than it would make sense to keep your eyes peeled for major pharmaceutical advancements as you are much better at interpreting clinical trials than the average investor in Big Pharma. Furthermore, working every day in the hospital should give you some idea of what the potential impact will be of a particular drug in the hospital market place.

We don’t like to boast about our predictive value, but let’s just say that between Bionovo, Cambridge Heart, The Medicines Company, and OSI Pharmaceuticals, we have done just fine. Here’s a few we like going forward:

Money Shot

Javlogo.gifOK. We don't need to go into great detail about how we wroite a bunch of articles praising a $0.35 stock called Cambridge Heart (CAMH) which has since rose more than 1000% and then dropped a bit to %2.60+. And we do not need to remind all of you that we predicted the study outcomes regarding many of the late-breaking trials at last year's American College of Cardiology conference. We should not need to do any of that since we have a new company to discuss with you: Javelin Pharamaceuticals (JAV).

Leave Us A-Clone

dolly.jpgAfter months of debate and review, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will soon rule that food from cloned animals is as safe to eat as food from conventionally raised ones.

Sweet cloned meat! The food police have confidently stated that eating meat and milk from cloned adult cattle, pigs, goats and their genetically identical offspring is as safe as eating those products from animals whose DNA is slightly different.

Sheep were left out of the FDA report due to lack of evidence and when reached for comment, Dolly the Sheep, was quoted as saying "baaaaa." She's a sheep, dudes.

Nurses Suing Over Greasy Moon

heartattackgrillgirls.jpgYou gotta love the Heart Attack Grill in Phoenix, AZ, a theme-based restaurant that asks the question: "Are you man enough for the Triple Bypass Burger (that's 3 beef patties, 3 slices of cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, many strips of bacon and "special sauce". They should throw in an aspirin and a Lipitor if they want their customers coming back mroe than twice. The coronary-clogging eatery also sells Flatliner Fries and cigarettes, boasting that they're worth dying for - but none of these things are what's getting them media attention or pending lawsuits....

Interview with "The Todd"

scrub_3.gifAs we struggle up the proverbial mountain our M.D., an occasional reminder of why we subject ourselves to the late nights of studying and early mornings of pimping can make an enormous impact. But from where and from who shall this inspiration come? A role model of sorts; a mentor, one might say. A physician who transcends the mundane and reminds us of why we signed up for this in the first place: A doctor that refers to himself in the third person – “The Todd”. Straight from the set of Scrubs, StopPagingMe.com has brought you Robert Maschio, the actor behind the sex-obsessed, high-fiving, bikini-wearing surgical resident on NBC’s Emmy-nominated sitcom.

Getting the Fellowship You Want

Part II: Beating the Crowd

You have read Part I of our series and so you've now chosen your field (Part I, click here). Congratulations on choosing your specialty, or sub-specialty as the case may be. It’s not easy and you may not be 100% sure about it but the reality was best described by my wise Jewish grandma: “You love what you know, and your grandfather knew coffee.” That holds true for you as well, except the coffee part (maybe). Once you commit yourself and begin the process of becoming a maven in that field, you will love it – and if you can’t get past it then suck it up and know your stuff anywa because there's plenty of competition out there.

Pujols and Sheffield

Two big sluggers, Pujols and Sheffield, are on the DL and if I were you I would wanna know for how long? Who can you ask to find out? How about an orthopaedic surgeon who sees these injuries every day? Or, perhaps a guy that has won almost every fantasy league he has ever entered? Luckily, we have access to both.

Ask the Bone Box your injury questions!

The Boner dishes the medical dirt on Albert Pujols who was just put on the 15-day DL. He tells us whether this seemingly minor injury will have major repurcussions and what to do if the trade sharks start circling. Our fantasy basesball guru also drops a bomb about Sheffield.

Hideki Matsui --> OF – New York Yankees

Injury: Wrist fracture

Wow... that's one way to end a streak.  Not too much mystery here, he is done until August at the earliest..... maybe he can make an impact in September, but unless you have a ridiculously deep bench, you're probably better off dropping him..... he is at least going to be immobilized for six weeks..... swinging a bat, maybe 8-10 weeks at the earliest.... I don't see how he returns with any significant fantasy value until September, and even that is questionable......

Resume Do's and Dont's

applican.jpgThere is certainly no shortage of advice on how to write a resume. In fact, if you Google “resume”, you will be amazed at the number of companies trying to take your money in exchange for some generic resume tips and tools. We dare say that if you’re paying for someone to write your resume then you are not ready to apply in the first place. While undoubtedly painful, writing an excellent curriculum vitae is not hard. The amount of very helpful free information on the web is overwhelming and at the end of this article we’ll direct you to some links we feel get the point across clearly.
